The Mar Menor is a naturally formed, warm water lagoon, and a narrow strip of land separates it from Mediterranean. This is one of the best known features of Murcia and the one which attracts the most number of tourists to the region. It is also referred to as the ‘little sea’ and is a favourite among tourists for sports like swimming, scuba-diving, water-skiing, wind-surfing, kite-surfing, sailing etc.

It is also famed for the healing and therapeutic uses of its mud. The most well-known area for clay baths can be found at the northernmost tip of the lagoon, at la Puntica. Many people come to the coasts to get mud baths. There are also spas giving specialist treatments with the best of installations and trained staff.
