Murcia Tourist Information - Around Murcia - Mazarron
Mazarron
Mazarron is one more attractive port town on the Costa Calida. The lead, zinc, silver, iron, red ochre, and alum deposits helped in the growth and development of the region. Its ancient name Almazarron means red ocher- the colour the area represents. Mazarron also was inhabited by the Romans and the Carthaginians. Old style homes and buildings make sightseeing a pleasure. The ruins of Castle Velez, the church of San Andres, and the town hall are some of the more remarkable monuments.

Here, “Ciudad Encantada” (enchanted city), is famous and a must see. It is an area where sandstone has been shaped into peculiar forms by the sea and the winds. There are places of natural beauty on the coast like Puntas de Calnegre- named so due to the dark colour of the rocks. Besides Cape Cope, Puntas de Calnegre is a Regional Park in Spain since 1992. This is one of the loneliest spots on the coast with clean sandy beaches and clear waters.
On the coast, tourists can go diving, and exploring the underwater caves. There are courses offered in diving. Beautiful marine life and underwater caves are some of the things that will delight you. Furthermore, the bay of Mazzaron is a sailing paradise, where visitors can enjoy regattas, coastal navigation in sailing boats, rowing, and sea paragliding, water-skiing and motor-boating. There are also walking and bicycle riding tours, and visits to the old salt mines.
